Amazon Launches Enhanced Kindle Titles

Enhanced Kindle Edition Amazon has just launched a line of audio and video enhanced ebooks, effectively positioning the Kindle as yet another platform for delivery of enhanced ebook content.

Unfortunately, Kindle device owners aren’t able to experience these new enhancements. For now the enhancements are only accessible on Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch) via the Kindle app.

The initial launch features a small batch of enhanced books covering a wide range of subjects, from bird calls to FDR. Initial testing reveals that the audio and video enhancements are integrated with text in an unobtrusive manner.

Missing from Amazon’s announcement is any indication of how publishers can take advantage of this new opportunity for enhanced content. There are currently no tools that we are aware of for producing these enhanced Kindle editions and Amazon has not released any specifications for the new format.
